MJ Phillips delivered a stellar performance in Petro Gazz's dominant win over Nxled, but the two-time Best Middle Blocker remains focused on improving as the Angels enter the qualifying round.
MJ Phillips is seemingly peaking at the right time for the Petro Gazz Angels.
The Fil-Am middle blocker delivered a strong all-around performance as the Angels wrapped up the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference preliminaries with a commanding 25-19, 25-14, 25-17 victory over the Nxled Chameleons at the PhilSports Arena on Thursday, February 20.
Phillips showcased her dominance at the net, tallying 14 points built on nine attacks, two blocks, and three service aces.
Coming back from a left foot injury that kept her out of the entire Reinforced Conference, Phillips has been making strides in her return.
Despite her impressive numbers, the two-time PVL Best Middle Blocker remains committed to continuous growth.
"I just wanted to play the game and focus on trying to fine-tune some things. Thankfully, it was a team effort, and it felt great out there," Phillips said during the post-game press conference.

While she has consistently been a key figure for the Angels, Phillips believes she has yet to reach her best form.
"Definitely, I'm not at my peak. I always want to improve, and hopefully, that happens as we continue," she added.
With a 10-1 record to close the eliminations, Petro Gazz heads into the next phase with confidence, but Phillips and the team know that the real challenge is just beginning.
As they set their sights on the qualifying round, Phillips remains determined to elevate her game and help the Angels in their championship pursuit.
