Make it nine in a row for the Petro Gazz Angels to wrap up the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino preliminaries.

The Angels made quick work of the Nxled Chameleons, winning in straight sets, 25-19, 25-14, 25-17, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday, February 20.

Brooke Van Sickle led the way for Petro Gazz with 17 points on 15 attacks, one block, and one service ace.

“I think our team did a really good job this past preliminaries. I thought that we stayed consistent,” Van Sickle said during the post-game press conference.

“It didn’t matter who was playing and to come out with only one loss, I feel like it’s good for confidence before moving to the playoffs. I’m just proud of the team and I hope we can continue with this energy.”

Apart from their lone loss in the conference, the Angels have looked dominant all tournament long, cementing themselves as a title contender.

But while their record is impressive, Van Sickle pointed out that Petro Gazz’s record will not matter heading into the playoffs.

“It doesn’t matter that we won 10 games, it’s basically a clean slate and everyone’s gonna be gunning for the top, so I think we just have to embrace the pressure, be able to take every single rep seriously, and continue to try to push each other and hold each other accountable,” Van Sickle emphasized.

The Angels are expected to face the Capital1 Solar Spikers in the qualifying round—a team they beat dominantly.

As they await their schedule, the Fil-Hawaiian spiker knows the importance of rest and recovery come the playoffs.

“I think staying healthy and making sure we’re mindful of our bodies, feeling our bodies and everything is very important. It’s a quick turnaround, a lot of games in a short period of time versus preliminaries,” Van Sickle pointed out.

“We’re hitting playoffs now and it’s anyone’s game so we have to be able to stay level-minded and keep that confidence, and be able to stick together as a team, be very cohesive.”
