The PLDT High Speed Hitters gave it their all in their straight-sets defeat to Zhetysu VC in the 2025 AVC Women's Champions League.
The PLDT High Speed Hitters will make their way out of the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League after being knocked out in the quarterfinals by Zhetysu VC in straight sets, 13-25, 22-25, 20-25, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday, April 24.
The tall Kazakh squad continues to have the Philippines’ number after also beating the Creamline Cool Smashers during their pool play.
After a slow start in the first set, PLDT managed to keep it close against Zhetysu in the second and third frames, but ultimately, came up short in the final moments.
Tied at 13-all in the third, the Kazakhs pushed ahead for a four-point lead at 17-13 amid a couple of errors from the High Speed Hitters.
PLDT would not go down without a fight, cutting the lead to a single point at 20-21. But from there, Zhetysu closed out the game on a 4-0 run capped off by Valeriya Yakutina’s attack which Kianna Dy could not save.
Tatyana Nikitina had her way against PLDT with 19 points, while Karyna Denysova added 15 markers.
Savi Davison led the High Speed Hitters with 13 points, with import Wilma Salas backing her up with 11 in the loss.
Zhetysu will now await the winner of the Creamline-Nakhon Ratchasima match later this evening.
