Deanna Wong feels nothing but happiness as she slowly but surely regains her bearings for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
For the first time in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference, Deanna Wong emerged as a starter for the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on Saturday.
Wong, though still groping for form, got the Choco Mucho offense humming early en route to a straight-set rout of the Capital1 Solar Spikers.
The 5-foot-8 setter fanned out nine excellent sets in the first and second frames before dishing out the playmaking baton to Mars Alba, who proved instrumental in the decisive third.
“Masaya na nakapaglaro na pero unti-unti pa rin. It’s more of the system talaga that we follow kaya kahit sino naman ipasok, nagagawa pa rin namin ‘yung kailangang gawin,” Wong said.
Wong played sparingly in the first half of the season-opening conference.
The former Ateneo stalwart missed two matches and served as a reliever for Alba in the rest of Choco Mucho’s first seven outings, after being hampered by a nagging knee injury.
Now that she’s steadily regaining her peak form, Wong attributed her stable recovery to the support of Flying Titans head coach Dante Alinsunurin and her teammates.
“It starts sa training naman lalo na sina coach at tsaka ‘yung teammates ko, nandyan naman sila. It’s more of how we help each other kasi and how we bring up each other, and dahil naman sa kanila ‘yun,” Wong said.
“Lagi namang sinasabi nila coach na health-wise talaga ‘yung mas mahalaga.”
With such a nurturing system, Choco Mucho has now bolstered its semifinals bid with a league-leading 7-1 record.
Wong and the Flying Titans seek to continue their winning ways when they take on Strong Group Athletics on April 13, Saturday.
