Jema Galanza’s playing status for the Creamline Cool Smashers heading into the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference remains a mystery, even for coach Sherwin Meneses.

Galanza was called up for Alas Pilipinas for the 2024 FIVB Women’s Challenger Cup in July and for the 2024 Southeast Asian (SEA) V.League in August.

Galanza, along with Tots Carlos, initially begged off from national team duties during the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup due to Creamline’s prior trip to Spain, which followed the team's title conquest in the All-Filipino Conference.

But now with the national team, Galanza’s playing status for the Cool Smashers is up in the air.

Under FIVB rules, players who compete for the national team must also sit out for their club teams during that period.

The PVL had aligned its schedule with the FIVB calendar to coincide with the national team period, which runs from May 16 to October 15. 2024.

With this in mind, Meneses is still unsure whether or not they will have Galanza for the upcoming PVL conference.

“Wala pang final eh pero sa pagkakaalam namin hindi siya makakalaro samin pero di pa naman final so kami rin naghihintay ng decision,” Meneses told reporters at the sidelines of Day 2 of the PVL Draft Combine.

Galanza has been an integral piece in Creamline’s championship dynasty in the PVL, earning the coveted Finals MVP plum during the Cool Smashers' latest title run.

With or without her though, the Cool Smashers will look to bring home another championship following the addition of American import Erica Staunton.
