The PVL is looking to cover all the bases when it comes to sister team signings and swaps in future conferences.
The PVL is hoping to put an end to the transfer and swap of players from sister teams after the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
PVL commissioner Sherwin Malonzo said that the league is looking to implement a “showcase period” where players with expired contracts cannot sign with the sister team for a certain amount of time, allowing other teams to swoop in and offer them a contract as well.
This ruling was supposed to be in place during the offseason, however, the league was unable to finish its discussion with its members.
“Dapat may showcase period kumbaga bago kunin ng sister team kaso hindi namin natapos ‘yung discussion,” Malonzo told reporters at the sidelines of the PVL pre-season press conference.
“We’re revising the rules, some members kailangan 'pag sister team bawal period. Kaso ‘yung take naman ng iba is kawawa naman. Kunyare bawal siya lumipat sa sister team, eh paano kung walang ibang team na kumuha kay player.”
The PVL has had some notable swaps between sister teams, forcing the league to implement its new guidelines.
Earlier this year, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans transferred Bea de Leon and Denden Lazaro-Revilla to the Creamline Cool Smashers.
Months later the Akari Chargers and Nxled Chameleons had a swap between Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Trisha Genesis, Bang Pineda, and Roselle Baliton for Ivy Lacsina, Dani Ravena, Kamille Cal, and Camille Victoria.
Then most recently, Farm Fresh Foxies’ Kate Santiago, Joan Narit, and Chinnie Arroyo moved to the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles.

Malonzo, however, clarified that the recent offseason move is legal for now after the trio’s contract expired.
“Nilinaw naman sakin, ‘Rest assured Sherwin, nag-expire ‘yung contract nung tatlo.’ Dahil hindi pa implemented ‘yung showcase rule, so hindi muna namin ginalaw, inallow muna namin,” Malonzo explained.
As the PVL continues its discussions, Malonzo is hoping to have the final “showcase period” finalized before the end of the year.
“Ang huling usapan namin isang buwan pero masyadong matagal. Tapos nauwi nga sa 15 calendar days. I think that was that last, so we’ll just publish it and then eventually release it by the end of the year,” said Malonzo.
