Risa Sato shared an emotional post following her departure from the Creamline Cool Smashers, reflecting on her six sweet years with the team and the 10 championship titles she earned.
For six sweet years, Risa Sato has been the heartwarming force behind the Creamline Cool Smashers, bringing cool vibes and a constant smile to the team.
The Filipino-Japanese middle blocker has been a key contributor to their success, claiming 10 championship titles along the way, but it's the friendships she forged that truly stand out.
Beyond the victories, Risa found a second home with the Cool Smashers, making the challenge of homesickness in the Philippines more bearable.
Her journey from the struggles of adjusting to a new environment to becoming an irreplaceable part of the team is a story of resilience, growth, and sweetness, much like a scoop of ice cream on a sunny day—refreshing and comforting.
In April 2023, Risa reflected on her decision to move to the Philippines, recalling the struggles she faced at the start.
"Was it seven, eight years ago when I came to the Philippines and started playing volleyball?" she asked, sharing her early challenges with communication, culture shock, and homesickness.
"In the beginning, it was difficult to communicate with teammates, and honestly, I argued with my teammates, and all I could say was ‘yes, no, thank you.’ The environment was bad, and it wasn’t fun at all. I felt homesick and cried every day."
But through perseverance, that "bad environment" turned into something much more: an unforgettable experience.
"I wanted to play volleyball overseas, in the Philippines. [The] Philippines is amazing. People are amazing. What can I say, so far it’s amazing," she said, proudly looking back. "Now that I think of it, I’m awesome. I’ll give myself a compliment."
