Dawn Macandili-Catindig expressed admiration for her new Cignal HD Spikers teammate Buding Duremdes as she made her debut for the team in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Dawn Macandili-Catindig will get some much-need help in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference following the Cignal HD Spikers' addition of Buding Duremdes.
Duremdes made her debut in Cignal’s four-set win over the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
For Macandili-Catindig, sharing the court with Duremdes is more than just a partnership as she expressed her admiration for the former Far Eastern University standout’s skills and composure.
“It’s an honor. Masarap na feeling na there’s someone who has your back na kaya ring mag-deliver at alam kong stable din sa loob ng court,” said Macandili-Catindig, who was hailed the Player of the Game after delivering 23 excellent digs.
The seasoned libero admitted she’s always on the lookout for lessons she can learn from others, including her fellow liberos.
“Ako naman, kapag sa game, very observant din ako. Ang dami kong napipick-up na skills and IQ sa ibang players. Same din kay Buding na nakakalaban ko na before,” said Macandili-Catindig.

Having faced Duremdes back in the UAAP and in the now-defunct Philippine Superliga, Macandili-Catindig recognized the younger player’s calm demeanor and exceptional qualities on the court.
“Talagang ang dami niya ring qualities na [gusto ko makuha], na very relaxed lang,” Macandili-Catindig shared. For me naman, as an ate, shine-share ko rin ‘yung insights ko sa laro niya.”
With Macandili-Catindig and Duremdes anchoring Cignal’s defense, the HD Spikers are aiming to solidify their backline and contend for a strong finish this conference.
Their next test comes next Thursday, Nov. 28 as they take on the Choco Mucho Flying Titans at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
