ILOCOS SUR — Myla Pablo had her best outing for Petro Gazz so far in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

The 31-year-old outside hitter put up 11 points built on nine attacks and two blocks in the Angels’ straight-set victory over the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19, at the Candon City Arena here on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Usually coming off the bench for Petro Gazz, Pablo was placed into the starting lineup after Jonah Sabete sat out the match due to a left calf strain.

The two-time PVL Most Valuable Player took the opportunity given to her by Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzurabara to help her squad secure the bounce-back victory for a 2-1 record.

In the third set, Pablo scored three straight points to push the Angels ahead, 15-10. This proved to be the difference as Petro Gazz went on to snatch the comfortable win.

“As of now, medyo naninibago pa ako and siyempre, ang tagal ko ring hindi naglaro and ang tagal ko ring hindi babad sa court. Kaya sabi ko sa sarili ko, 'Sige, kung ano 'yung kailangan kong gampanan as a player,'” Pablo said during the post-game interview.

But even with her solid performance, Pablo admitted that she is still far from the form that she would want to have, especially after not having enough playing time last season.

“Ngayon kasi, hindi pa talaga ako 'yung full na naglalaro kasi naninibago ako ngayon, especially ‘yung sa court, ‘yung pagod ng mga rally. Kasi in those two conferences, talagang hindi ako ganoon kababad. It’s the first time kong mababad this game. So kailangan talagang trabahuin sa training,” said Pablo.

Aside from Pablo’s contributions, it was Brooke Van Sickle who led the way for the Angels with 20 points on 19 kills and one ace.

Veteran opposite hitter Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added 10 markers.

Trisha Tubu was the lone double-digit scorer for the Foxies with 14 points.

Up next for Petro Gazz will be Akari on Dec. 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
