The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles played spoiler to the Capital1 Solar Spikers' first PVL anniversary celebration with a dominant straight-sets victory in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
ZUS Coffee dashed Capital1’s hopes for a celebratory first anniversary in the PVL, securing a clean sweep in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena Saturday, 31-29, 25-15, 25-15.
Despite the Solar Spikers’ aspirations to mark their franchise milestone with a win, the Thunderbelles had other plans as the team showcased composure and resilience to end their three-game losing skid.
Fueled by the momentum from their thrilling first-set victory, the Thunderbelles dominated the second and third sets, avenging their five-set defeat last Tuesday against Choco Mucho.
Tied at 6-all in the third frame, ZUS Coffee pushed ahead with a 5-1 run powered by Gayle Pascual.
Despite Capital1’s efforts to cut the deficit, middle blocker Thea Gagate proved instrumental in controlling the net with ZUS Coffee extending its lead to 21-12.
Michelle Gamit and Kate Santiago then closed the game out as the Thunderbelles improved to a 3-4 record. Meanwhile, the Solar Spikers continue to struggle in the conference at 1-6.
Chinnie Arroyo was hailed the Player of the Game with 15 points on 13 attacks, one block, and one service ace.
ZUS Coffee will go for back-to-back wins against Chery Tiggo next Thursday, Jan. 30, still at the PhilSports Arena.
