A sign of good things to come for the rookie big man.
Mason Amos turned in an explosive performance when it mattered most for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament.
Amos’ breakout game couldn’t have come at a better time as he hit big shots in the extra period to deal the UP Fighting Maroons their first loss of the season, 99-89, on Sunday in the culmination of the first round.
The Ateneo rookie ended up with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his best game yet in the UAAP.
His Gilas Pilipinas big brother, Chris Ross, couldn’t hide his excitement and gave praise for the young cager.
“Yeahhhhhhh Money Mase!! Talk that!!!” Ross wrote on his Instagram Story.
Ross and Amos were teammates on Gilas Pilipinas when the team reclaimed the Southeast Asian Games gold medal. The Filipinos disposed of home team Cambodia, which featured a slew of naturalized players.
Amos, who grew up in Australia and traces his roots to Pampanga, first suited up for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers last February.
Aside from Ross, another PBA player in Rain or Shine Elasto Painters forward Shaun Ildefonso also showed love to Amos.
“VICTORY ROYALE,” Ildefonso said on his Instagram Story.
Can Amos sustain his fine play for the defending champions in the second round?
