The perfect move after a successful stint in the UAAP.
After going through a grueling buildup for the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament, Kevin Quiambao of the De La Salle Green Archers subjected himself to more grueling activities to further prepare his mind and body as the tournament went on.
The hard work and sacrifice obviously paid off.
KQ’s historic sophomore campaign culminated in La Salle winning the championship against the stacked UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, which ended a seven-year title drought in Taft. For the cherry on top, Quiambao bagged the Finals MVP plum.
Now, he definitely deserves to take a break and pamper himself a bit.
“Magpapahinga muna ako. Kailangan ko lang bumawi sa pamilya ko dahil all the time, during the season, gym pati basketball lang (ako). Sila (coach and teammates) lang nakikita ko,” the 22-year-old forward said during the postgame presser, adding that his mom is set to return home to the Philippines.
Green Archers coach Topex Robinson then interjected in jest.
“Tanungin niyo siya kung saan siya magbabakasyon,” said the newly crowned UAAP champion tactician.
Like he is during crunch time, KQ embraced the moment, placating his mentor’s prodding.
“I’m going to Japan,” Quiambao responded.
There has been an exodus of tourists to Japan throughout the year, including several Filipino athletes like Scottie Thompson and Kim Kianna Dy. Siyempre, hindi magpapahuli 'yung UAAP MVP.

KQ also made mention of a couple of details to clarify his upcoming trip.
“December 15, magbabakasyon lang ako, coach. Bakasyon lang,” he explained with a smile.
Or is he?
Just kidding, just kidding.
