Up two sets to none, Far Eastern University looked poised to give the University of Santo Tomas its first defeat in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament back in the first round.

But as things would have it, the Golden Tigresses roared back to complete the reverse sweep against the Lady Tamaraws.

With the second round winding down, UST and FEU will meet once more on Saturday, April 13 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila at 4:00 p.m.

A lot will be at stake for both teams.

For UST, a win will move the Golden Tigresses closer to securing the top spot and a twice-to-beat advantage come the Final Four.

A win for FEU, on the other hand, will secure the Lady Tamaraws a Final Four berth for the first time since Season 81.

Looking ahead to their match against the Golden Tigresses, coach Manolo Refugia is hoping that the result will favor the Lady Tamaraws this time around.

“Mas gutom kaming bawian talaga si UST kasi 'yung naramdaman ng mga players nung natalo kami siyempre masyadong heartbreaking 'yun kasi up by two [sets] kami,” Refugia said during the post-game press conference.

“Siguro gamitin namin 'yung momentum na wins namin ngayon, maging consistent pa kami, tas pag-aralan pa namin mabuti how to stop UST,” he added.

Riding on their momentum, Chenie Tagaod and Jean Asis, who combined for 22 points in FEU’s dominant straight-set victory over Adamson University, admitted having a renewed belief in beating UST.

“Sa akin, hindi kami dapat kumalma kasi knowing UST grabe talaga, so pagtatrabahuan namin. Ginawa namin siyang inspiration kasi sobrang sakit nung pagkatalo namin sa UST. Mga ilang days ata bago ako naka-move on dun pero at ngayon at least alam namin na kaya namin,” said Tagaod.

“Pupush lang namin bawat isa. UST kalaban namin, kinaya nung una so ngayon ilang days pinaghandaan namin, so for sure kaya na namin sila talunin. I-work lang namin kung ano tinuro ng coaches at 'yung mga pinagdaanan namin,” Asis added.

The game between UST and FEU will air on One Sports, the UAAP Varsity Channel, and the Pilipinas Live app.
