Ateneo de Manila University avenged its opening-day loss against the University of the East with a four-set victory this second round, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament Sunday, April 14, at the SM MOA Arena.
The Blue Eagles ended their two-game losing skid as the trio of Lyann De Guzman, Sobe Buena, and Zel Tsunashima came alive in their match against the Lady Warriors.
After leading 16-15 in the fourth set, Ateneo went on a 9-1 scoring burst behind De Guzman, Tsunashima, and Zey Pacia, who scored two points apiece in the run to complete the victory.
Despite already out of the Final Four contention, Ateneo looks to end their Season 86 campaign on a strong note as the Blue Eagles now sit with a 4-8 record.
Roma Mae Doromal had a stellar game for the Blue Eagles with 23 excellent digs and 23 excellent receptions.
De Guzman had 25 points built on 21 attacks, three blocks, and one service ace, while Tsunashima and Buena added 18 and 13 markers, respectively.
UE, on the other hand, dropped to a 2-9 record, failing to put together a win after an impressive performance against De La Salle University last Wednesday.
Casiey Dongallo finished with 27 points, to go along with 14 excellent receptions in the loss.
