The longstanding rivalry in the UAAP between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and DLSU Green Archers didn't help ease the transition of Mason Amos from blue to green.

While the Gilas Pilipinas forward expressed his gratitude to the Ateneo community, he drew flak from fans and alumni alike, to which he apologized for as he was doing this for his family.

Until finally, Amos revealed some of the reasons why he left Ateneo just after one season with the Blue Eagles.

"Mentally, it was draining for me. I wasn't happy there. I don't want to be somewhere where I'm not enjoying it," Amos revealed in an interview with Martie Bautista of News5.

Growing up in the US, Amos had a different perspective of collegiate basketball and he did not intend to cause trouble for the Ateneo community with his move.

"The way I look at it is I'm not really from the Philippines so I didn't think of it too much in that sense. I was just thinking about what was important for me and my family," Amos said.

But while the decision of the 6'7" forward was about what's best for his situation, Amos acknowledged that there was an existing rivalry and his transfer will draw some attention.

"I expected people to be mad. I expected all these opinions, but I'm not worried too much about that," he said.
