The highly-anticipated UAAP Cheerdance Competition is set to unfurl on Sunday after UAAP Final Four action at the Mall of Asia Arena.
From music icons to the power of story-telling, there will be no shortage of entertainment value when the UAAP Cheerdance Competition unfurls this Season 87 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday, December 1.
During a press conference on Wednesday, UAAP Season 87 Treasurer Bo Perasol dubbed the CDC as the league’s “entertainment offering” and with eight new routines from all member schools, the anticipated event is sure to create buzz anew.
“This is a welcome respite, actually, for the events that we’re having in the first part of the UAAP. I dare say that CDC is the entertainment offering. Iba po ang binibigay ng CDC sa ating audience,” said Perasol.
“Kaya ito po ang isa sa konti, napaka-konting events na lahat ng schools nagsasama-sama to appreciate the artistry ng ating mga cheerleaders ang kanilang disiplina. Nagtataka nga ako minsan napakahaba ng kanilang preparation just to show it off for how many minutes, five to six minutes. 'Yun na 'yung pinaka-highlight ng kanilang taon. That’s why it is really important that we appreciate that and napaka-rami nilang maibibigay.” he added.
For those who follow UAAP Cheerdance, each school’s themes is one of the things that they most look forward to heading into the competition, and this year has no shortage of exciting directions for the member schools.
Defending champions FEU will be going Into the Unknown with a Disney’s Frozen-themed performance, while perennial powerhouse NU are going extra terrestrial with an “out of this world” routine inspired by outer space.
The UE Pep Squad will be looking to bank on Filipino nostalgia with a “Sexbomb”-themed routine. UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe are going down a similar route with a “Batang 90s” performance.
Other themes include karaoke medley for Adamson, “storytelling” for the Ateneo Blue Eagles, and a chess-inspired performance for La Salle.
The UP Pep Squad kept coy and did not reveal their theme but alluded to a performance that will heat up MOA Arena.
“Kahit gaano kalamig ang MOA, papainitin namin,” they said.
The UAAP CDC begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Unlike previous years, this year’s edition will not feature a Group Stunts competition.
