In the opening weekend of UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball, Adamson rookie and former high school MVP Shaina Nitura made her mark by setting a single-game rookie scoring record with 33 points against the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

Leading the Lady Falcons from a 0-2 deficit to a stunning reverse sweep, Nitura has quickly established herself as a top contender for individual accolades this season

.

In an interview with One Sports, Shaina shared how her competitiveness could be the key to lifting her team, which finished seventh last season.

“'Yung pagiging competitive ko is pwedeng iakyat ko dito sa mga ate’s ko kasi ang na-feel ko lang din is baka ayun ‘youg kulang last time kaya ako inakyat ni Lord dito sa team na ‘to is to ibigay sa kanila ‘yung gift na ibinigay sa akin ni Lord,” she shared.

Despite being just 20 years old and taking on the captaincy, Shaina doesn’t let pressure get in the way of her leadership.

“Hindi ko naman po iniisip ‘yung pressure,” Shaina told One Sports. “The more you think na may pressure, the more mo siya nararamdan.”

She keeps her focus on daily training and believes the pressure shouldn’t hinder her performance.

“Nagtatrabaho naman ako sa pang-araw-araw na training namin, and I don’t think dapat ko pang isipin ‘yung pressure kasi thinking of pressure is going to be a hindrance ng skills ko and ng paglalaro ko,” she emphasized.

Looking ahead, Shaina is most excited about the growth of the Lady Falcons as a team.

“‘'Yung development po namin as a team. Kung gaano ba kalaki ‘yung improvement namin kumpara sa last time,” she shared.

The Adamson Lady Falcons will face the DLSU Lady Spikers on February 22, Saturday, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre at 5:00 P.M.
