Star hitter Angel Canino helps La Salle avoid a 0-2 hole to begin UAAP Season 87, taking the bounce-back win over Adamson.
The DLSU Lady Spikers have made their mark in UAAP Season 87 with a bounce back win at the expense of Adamson, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan on Saturday evening.
Putting their tough loss against NU behind them, the Lady Spikers repulsed an Adamson side brimming with confidence thanks to their super rookie Shaina Nitura.
La Salle was challenged most in set 2 when the perennial powerhouse needed the extended set to gain the 2-0 advantage over Adamson.
Powered by Nitura’s scoring prowess once more, the Lady Falcons forced La Salle into the deep end when they went on a 3-0 run to get to set point, 24-23. But three straight points for La Salle provided by star hitter Angel Canino, coupled with an error from Nitura helped the Lady Spikers keep momentum on their side.
In set 3, the Lady Spikers shut the door as Alleiah Malaluan began to catch fire for La Salle. She was the one to provide the finishing point for La Salle as the Lady Spikers took the sweep, 25-20.
Canino clinched Player of the Game honors with 15 points, while Malaluan added a team-high 16 markers.
Shevana Laput was the third La Salle player in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Nitura, meanwhile, sizzled down from her record 33-point explosion as she had 16 points in the losing effort.
Frances Mordi chipped in with 12 points as well.
Both teams thus have identical 1-1 records after two games.
