UST prolific scorer Angge Poyos’ first year campaign has a lot of overlaps with that of Adamson’s Shaina Nitura.
UST Golden Tigress sophomore hitter Angge Poyos is looking forward to the face-off with new generation talent Shaina NItura, as the España squad locks horns with the Adamson Lady Falcons on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Both coming off of big wins in their previous outings, Poyos goes head-to-head with the up-and-coming rookie that mirrored a lot of her journey during her rookie year in UAAP Season 86.
That is, Poyos, like Nitura now, was touted early on in her UAAP career as a promising hitter.

The UAAP Season 86 Rookie of the Year isn’t a stranger to all the conversations that people are having now regarding Nitura, particularly in topics like expectations and outside pressure. But now that she already has one year and a finals finish, Poyos has new perspectives.
Before she shared the taraflex as foes against Nitura, Poyos said that there was much to be impressed about the Lady Falcon.
“Shaina Nitura is very magaling talaga na player since high school palang. Grabe 'yung court awareness niya, grabe 'yung maturity niya across the court.” Poyos told media at the sidelines after their five-set win over the DLSU Lady Spikers on Sunday.
“So advice [ko] lang siguro [sa kanya], just keep her feet firm on the ground, kung ano man 'yung nababasa niya, o nakikita niya, kung nagbabasa man siya, wag lang siya maoverwhelm and ilabas lang niya kung ano man 'yung kaya niya gawin,” she added.
Early in the season, both Poyos and Nitura already have shown their game is a step up from the rest of the pack, as they have each high-scoring games for their respective teams — with Nitura notably breaking the rookie scoring record in her UAAP debut.
After previously facing each other in the juniors, Poyos is nothing but excited to take their rivalry to the next level.
With both UST and Adamson showing potential in their first three games of the season, Poyos believes it’s going to be a matchup to watch out for on Saturday.
“Actually nagkaharap na kami ni Shai nung high school days namin sa UAAP, so, inexpect ko talaga na magaling siya and maraming variations yung palo niya so expect sa Saturday na maganda yung laban ng team sa team ng Adamson.” said Poyos.
UST vs Adamson will open women’s volleyball action on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pasay venue.
They prelude a match between the undefeated NU Lady Bulldogs and the listless UE Lady Warriors.
