The NU Lady Bulldogs wasted no time in adding to the woes of the UE Lady Warriors in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament.
The NU Lady Bulldogs were quick to restore order as they handily beat the listless UE Lady Warriors, 25-12, 25-11, 25-20, in their first round encounter, improving to 4-0 in UAAP Season 87 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Saturday.
After being dragged into a five-set match by the FEU Lady Tamaraws last time out, NU made sure to reassert its dominance over the rest of the field with the dominant beatdown over cellar dwellers UE.
Save for the third set, UE was unable to go toe-to-toe with the defending champions in the match.
Though showing promise when they were within two points, 19-17, late in the third set, a costly service error from Van Bangayan shot UE in the foot as the overwhelming underdogs.
Led by reigning MVP Bella Belen, NU ended the game on a 6-3 run to seal the victory.
Belen topscored for the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, to go along with eight excellent digs and six excellent receptions.
Vange Alinsug also breached double digit scoring with 10 points. Former captain Erin Pangilinan stepped up on the scoring as well with eight markers with five excellent receptions.
Bangayan and Khy Cepada were UE’s leading scorers with seven markers each.
UE is still winless in four outings this season.
