Riding a three-game winning streak, the UST Golden Spikers are firing on all cylinders as of late in Season 87 even without injured two-time UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez.
Surging UST hopes to maintain their fiery form as the Golden Spikers go for a fourth straight victory against a skidding UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament.
The spikefest is on Wednesday, March 4, at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay scheduled at 12:00 p.m.
After dropping their season opener, the Golden Spikers racked up three straight dominating wins via sweep of the UE Red Warriors, DLSU Green Spikers, and most recently against the Adamson Soaring Falcons.
Alche Gupito and JJ Macam each poured 13 points to anchor UST’s offense over the Soaring Falcons as the last season’s runners-up are now tied with four-time defending champion NU Bulldogs (3-1) for joint second in the team standings.
Jay Rack Dela Noche and Popoy Colinares also made their presence felt with a combined 21-point performance.
“Nagtiwala lang po kami sa isa’t isa at naging mature kami sa loob ng court. Factor din po na naglaro kami nang masaya kasi nung third set po, malungkot ‘yung umpisa. Kumbaga ‘yung happiness po namin ang nag-push sa amin sa victory,” Gupiteo told reporters in the post-game press conference.
The last time the UST Golden Spikers won four straight games, they went all the way to the Finals back in Season 85.
UP, meanwhile, is searching for answers in light of a three-game losing skid after a winning start this tournament against the UE Red Warriors.
