PLDT takes the last outright quarterfinals berth in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference with a gutsy win over ZUS Coffee.
Savi Davison poured a game-high 32 points in a four-set victory by the PLDT High Speed Hitters against a gutsy ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24, to move on to the quarterfinals in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday.
Davison’s scoring outburst helped the higher-ranked High Speed Hitters repulsethe Thunderbelles, who won a lopsided first set before eventually falling short in the match. PLDT thus sets up a best-of-three quarterfinals against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
The High Speed Hitters are moving on to the next stage of the tournament on a five-game win streak.
ZUS Coffee looked poised to force PLDT into a fifth set when they reached set point in Set 4, 24-23, after a Kate Santiago attack.
But Davison quickly stopped the bleeding to extend the set, 24-all.
Erika Santos and Fiola Ceballos contributed back-to-back points to seal the victory.
ZUS Coffee, powered by top pick Thea Gagate, are headed to the play-in tournament where they face the Cignal HD Spikers for their first assignment on Thursday, March 6.
