Savi Davison has been on a tear in recent games for the PLDT High Speed Hitters, capping it off on Tuesday when she tied her career-high output of 34 points in their four-set win over the ZUS Coffee in the qualifying round, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Just two games since tallying her career-high in a streak-busting win over the Creamline Cool Smashers in February, Davison once again pulled out all the stops to carry the High Speed Hitters on her shoulders.

After the game, Davison revealed that there was a simple reason she had stepped up her game: she wants to take home a title.

Playing in her third season in the PVL, Davison has yet to taste a championship with PLDT. The closest was during the 2024 Reinforced Conference when they finished as semifinalists. Now with another chance at glory, the Fil-Canadian hitter isn’t about to let things slip away.

“I want a championship.” Davison said.

“I want to be in that really tough spot in the end of the season. I guess, this is just preparing for that. So, hopefully we just keep performing and we get there and when the time comes, we show up.”

Davison’s offense proved pivotal as she helped the High Speed Hitters bounce back against the gutsy Thunderbelles, even saving a set point in Set 4 when their foes were threatening to push the match to a fifth set.

As ZUS led by a point, 24-23, Davison outsmarted the defense with a cut shot to reach a deadlock and extend the set.

Now riding a five-game win streak, the High Speed Hitters just want to keep going, especially since the games only get tougher from here on out.

“I think it was just a mentality shift from the preliminaries to the playoff rounds.” said the 26-year-old.

“Coach [Rald Ricafort] told the team earlier that it’s a long road from here to the championship so we just need to set our standard and play from there so hopefully, [it’s] nowhere but up from here.”

Next up for the High Speed Hitters will be a three-game series against an equally capable Choco Mucho Flying Titans. The quarterfinals begin on March 15.
