With payback on their sights, the UP Fighting Maroons are keen to gain the upper hand in the latest “Battle of Katipunan.”
Eager for revenge are the UP as the Fighting Maroons open their second round campaign against the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament, Saturday, March 22, at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City. Match time is at 12:00 p.m.
The Diliman-based squad snapped a five-game skid after taking care of business against the Adamson Soaring Falcons.
Nigerian spiker Raheem Olayemi scored four of the UP's final five points en route to a team-high 22-point performance. Tommy Castrodes added a solid triple-double outing of 17 points, 23 excellent receptions, and 14 excellent digs.
It gave them their second win of the tournament in seven games, occupying solo sixth in the team standings above the Soaring Falcons (1-6) and the winless UE Red Warriors (0-7).
“In terms of improvement, I think the five losses and even the first game, were our six steps to learning so we took each game as a learning experience for us, ”UP head coach Carlo Cabatingan said in the post-game press conference.
One of the Fighting Maroons’ losses in the first round came at the hands of the Blue Eagles.
