Alas Pilipinas continue to make history in the 2024 Asian Volleyball Confederation Challenge Cup for Women.


After pulling off a massive victory over Australia in its campaign opener last May 23, the Philippines went on to defeat India as well, before taking down Iran to secure its first semifinal appearance in an AVC-sanctioned competition in 63 years.


Alas then completed an emphatic sweep of Pool A with a resounding rout of Chinese Taipei on Sunday, May 26, formalizing its entry into the semis.

The dream run has been reflected in the FIVB women’s volleyball world rankings.


Prior to the Challenge Cup, the Philippines was ranked 63rd in the world with 39.91 points.


Following the string of victories, Alas Pilipinas have earned 9.44 points, jumping eight places to 55th in the global order, as of May 27, 2024.


In Asia, the country has risen from 12th to 8th place, scaling Australia, Iran, India, and Indonesia.

The ascent of Alas Pilipinas in the FIVB rankings is a testament to the Philippine National Volleyball Federation’s dedicated efforts to elevate the international standing of the country.


As they prepare for the semifinals match against Kazakhstan on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., the Filipinas aim to build on their momentum and continue their historic run, with aspirations of clinching the continental title and further elevating their status on the global stage.
