As part of their preparation for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship, Alas Pilipinas Men are set to take on a powerhouse Japanese squad, the Osaka Blueton, in back-to-back matches on September 7-8 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Formerly known as the Panasonic Panthers, the Osaka Blueton is a six-time Japan V.League champion, making this showdown a much-anticipated event for volleyball enthusiasts in the country.

One of the key figures gearing up for this competition is Japan's volleyball star, Yuji Nishida, who is back in the Philippines just months after Japan's stint in the 2024 VNL Manila Leg.

Having just returned to his team after national team duties during the Olympic Games Paris 2024, Nishida expressed excitement and determination ahead of these games against the Filipinos.

Like Alas Men, the Osaka Blueton is undergoing rigorous preparations for its upcoming season in the Japan SV League.

“I’m very happy to join this program. After finishing my duties with the national team, I joined my team, Bluteon, and started practicing four days ago,” said Nishida.

The Osaka Blueton is experiencing some changes this season, and the 24-year-old Japanese spiker highlighted the differences in the team's composition compared to last year.

"A week ago, the player from Cuba [Miguel Ángel López] also started practicing with us. This is not the same team from last season; this is a new team for this season,” said Nishida.

With new additions and strategic adjustments, Nishida and his team seek to build fresh chemistry and energy as they prepare to play against the Alas Men.

Nishida also called on fans to rally behind them, especially as they face tough competition not only in the Japan SV League, but also in their international friendly matches.

“I hope the fans will give us a lot of energy ahead of our tough games in the Japan League. It’s nice to meet the national team of the Philippines,” said Nishida.

While his team is focused on their objectives, Nishida did not hesitate to contemplate the possibility of representing Japan again in future tournaments.

"I hope I’ll choose to play for the national team next season," he hinted.

As the much-awaited face-off between Osaka Blueton and Alas Pilipinas Men approaches, Nishida encouraged volleyball fans to support and watch the games.

"Okay, tomorrow, please look forward to the game or watch it on TV. Thank you so much," Nishida ended.
