Who’s slacking? Still absent from Gilas camp, Jordan Clarkson not skipping a beat

Gilas Pilipinas is now slated to play a series of pocket tournaments and tune-up games in Europe as the preparation for the FIBA World Cup kicks into high gear. Understandably, a good chunk of Filipino basketball fans feel worried/puzzled/agitated that Gilas’ premier naturalized player in NBA star Jordan Clarkson has yet to join the national team.

Of course, it would be ideal for the Utah Jazz gunner and his Filipino teammates to already be working together at this point, considering that the global hoops summit is set to begin on August 25.

But if it’s the question of Clarkson’s physical condition that worries Gilas’ supporters, there is something that might quell their doubts. In a recent Instagram post, the 2021 NBA Sixth Man of the Year awardee shared snippets of his rigorous shooting workout routine.

Rocking a new look with his hair down, the 31-year-old scoring specialist looked extra-lethal out there on the perimeter with his large ‘fro.

Known for his eccentric and bold fashion sense, the nine-year NBA veteran brought his unique style in practice as he sported a fitted cap while sharpening his catch-and-shoot and off-the-dribble jumpers.

At least for now, the skepticism surrounding JC’s shape can be turned down. As it appears on his IG story, his moves remain sharp and he’s still a walking bucket. The only concern still lurking is whether or not he’d have enough time to properly jell with the rest of Gilas before FIBA’s flagship event tips off.

All things considered, his presence in the buildup will serve as a huge boost for the team, not only from a basketball standpoint but also in terms of the squad's overall confidence. The sooner he joins the fold, the better for the Philippine contingent.
