Kai Sotto’s NBA dream has taken a significant step in the past few weeks as he suited up for the Orlando Magic in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Sotto played two games, including a debut where he posted 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, and a couple of highlight plays that gave Filipino content creators lots of material.

It’s no secret, however, that Kai logged three DNPs before cracking the rotation. It doesn’t help that he also exited his second and last game early after apparently suffering from back issues.

With that NBA Summer League performance, saying that the 7-foot-3 big man barely moved the needle in his NBA aspirations does not seem far-fetched—at least that’s what some fans think.

Sotto, however, is unbothered. A week after saying that he’s “always thankful for the opportunities and blessings no matter how things turn out,” the 21-year-old continues to show wisdom beyond his age.

“You can’t be me,” Kai’s Instagram post on Monday showed. “All these losses I took with a smile woulda broke you.”

It sounds like a shot at his haters, doesn’t it? We can’t say.

For what it’s worth, Sotto has tons of supporters, including six-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo and legendary Alaska Aces import Sean Chambers, who are sticking with him in this part of the process.

Kai, who is also expected to join the Gilas Pilipinas camp for FIBA World Cup soon, will just keep grinding to prove the haters wrong.
