Gilas Pilipinas’ true potential is finally showing off after their dominant 85-62 win over Ivory Coast in their first of three tune-up games before the FIBA World Cup.

While this is still just a tune-up game, it’s a welcome sign for many fans who have been laser-focused on Gilas’ performances.

After the closed-door match was reported on social media, fans immediately took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the results and stats of the game.

Twitter user @peamupbupper had a short but sweet message about Gilas’ victory: “Dominant win by Gilas. good way to start.”

Gilas fans were also pleased with how the lineup looked as size didn’t seem to be a problem when facing Ivory Coast.

High praises were also given to the likes of AJ Edu, Scottie Thompson, and Rhenz Abando.

Edu finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Thompson also had a solid game with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Abando added 5 points, 1 rebound, and 2 steals.

User @manlord327 was all praises for the three, saying “Grabe ung +/- nung Edu at Abando... Thompson parang hnd lng nainjure.”

One Gilas fan also spotted Abando’s high plus-minus in the game where he finished with a +16.

“A +16 for Abando in 10 minutes of action is a resounding positive. If that doesn't raise the probability of him earning a slot on the final 12, I don't know what will,” said user @YoungbloodCasts.

Of course, fans are also hoping for the same type of play from Gilas when they face the 18th-ranked Montenegro on Sunday.

Definitely a good start for Gilas—and we’re hoping for more wins come the actual tournament.
