Reyes has heard it all, indeed.
Chot Reyes has probably heard and read all the criticisms he could receive about coaching Gilas Pilipinas.
While some are basketball-related criticisms, there have been those directed towards Reyes himself, which he admitted were either too personal or too disrespectful.
Speaking on the Let It Fly podcast, Reyes was asked by former PBA guard Sol Meracdo on the “pettiest criticism” he’s received.
The former Gilas tactician’s answer? “My suit,” which was met with laughter from the hosts and Reyes himself.
During the FIBA World Cup, Reyes drew heavy criticism from fans because of the team’s failure to win games.
But, at one point, Reyes was even called out for wearing a Thom Browne suit, which would set a person back P220,000, give or take.
Given how totally unrelated Reyes' get-up was to winning or losing basketball games, it was clear that Gilas fans were definitely venting their ire out on whatever they could find againstthe veteran coach.
Then again, years on the high-profile job have seemingly made Reyes impervious to all sorts of criticism.
Meanwhile, when asked if he would still be willing to coach the national team once more, Reyes gave out a safe but coy reply.
“It's hard to say. Sa Tagalog, mahirap magsalita ng tapos. For now, no,” said Reyes.
Retired from national team duties at the moment, Reyes will likely enjoy his time away from Gilas and focus on the TNT Tropang Giga as they prepare for the Commissioner's Cup of Season 48 of the PBA starting this November.
