The SBP also says that Justin Brownlee is now dealing with the matter as aided by his US-based lawyers.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) says that the federation is aware of Justin Brownlee’s latest predicament after a report surfaced that the Ginebra and Gilas Pilipinas star tested positive for a banned substance.
“The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is aware that Gilas Pilipinas player Justin Brownlee has received notice of an adverse analytical finding,” the SBP said in a statement Monday, March 31.
“Brownlee is currently dealing with the situation aided by his US-based lawyers.”
On Sunday, Spin.ph reported that Brownlee could be facing another suspension after testing positive for a “recreational drug.”
It can be noted that Brownlee failed a doping test from the Asian Games in China last October 2023, where Gilas Pilipinas won the gold medal.
Brownlee sat out for months, returning to national team duty in February 2024.
But while the SBP is aware of Brownlee’s new situation, no FIBA mandate has been released so far.
“The SBP wishes to clarify that FIBA has not issued any official ruling as of date.”
