The Petro Gazz Angels closed in on a Finals berth after silencing the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in four sets in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference semifinals.
The Petro Gazz Angels are now the only unbeaten team left in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference semifinals after closing out the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in four sets, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17, 27-25, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, April 1.
Fresh off their huge victory against the Creamline Cool Smashers, the Angels continued their strong run in the semifinals after overcoming a first-set defeat against the Flying Titans.
Trailing 15-21 in the fourth frame, Petro Gazz went on a blazing 8-0 run to retake the lead capped by back-to-back service aces from Djanel Cheng.
Sisi Rondina would end the run but Aiza Maizo-Pontillas quickly countered for Petro Gazz, putting the Angels at match point, 24-22.
Drama ensued as Royse Tubino scored in the following play, albeit with some delay due to Petro Gazz’s ball in/out challenge which was deemed inconclusive. She then followed that up with a crucial block on Myla Pablo to force an extended set.
Tied at 25-all, Pablo would not be denied as she scored on back-to-back attacks to seal the hard-fought victory for the no. 2 seed Angels.
Brooke Van Sickle delivered anew for Petro Gazz, leading the charge with a triple-double of 17 points, 12 excellent digs, and 22 excellent receptions.
Now 2-0, Petro Gazz will look to make its PVL Finals berth official against the Akari Chargers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Thursday, April 3.
