Did Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis undergo thumb surgery or not?

Lithuanian national team head coach Kazys Maksvytis Wednesay said the Kings' All-Star player underwent surgery for a right thumb fracture sustained last December.

"He tried to recover without the surgery, but it didn't work, and he lost time. After the surgery, everything takes longer," Maksvytis said as reported by BasketNews.com.

"He apologized for not coming and promised to be available next summer."

But apparently, Sabonis did NOT have surgery to repair the avulsion fracture, according to ESPN Kings insider James Ham.

"He continues to follow a strict rehab protocol and was unable to play for the Lithuanian national team this summer," Ham tweeted.

Whether or not Sabonis did have that surgery, what's certain is that he will not be suiting up for Lithuania in the FIBA World Cup.

There's still plenty of firepower though for the eighth-ranked squad in the world, led by NBA big man Jonas Valanciunas.

He will be joined by Laurynas Birutis, one of the top shot blockers in the European Qualifiers with six overall.

Lithuania's best finish was third place in 2010.

Lithuania will be playing in Group D at the Mall of Asia Arena against Egypt, Montenegro, and Mexicowhich also released their extended roster.

There will be no Juan Toscano-Anderson for the 12 Guerreros, but Mexico will have plenty of chemistry having played together in the Americas Qualifiers.

Mexico is third in three-point field goal shooting with 11.6 made per game and third in assists with an average of 20.3.

Paul Stoll will be the star playmaker, ranking fifth in the region with 5.1 dimes per game.

Fabian Jaimes will be the main man at the post, ranking fifth in rebounds with 7.6.

Mexico, like the Philippines, ended a 40-year FIBA World Cup drought and returned in 2014. Their best finish was ninth place in 1974.
