This is a shameless excuse to boast about the Filipinas.
The FIFA Women's World Cup has officially started. The Filipinas will soon be making history with their debut. Filipinos will be able to watch them live and for free on One Sports and Pilipinas Live.
And sure, Pinoys will be cheering for the women's squad. This is also the chance to check out the best kits in the tournament.
Dare we say, these are more visually stunning than the kits in the men's edition of the World Cup? Check them out for yourself.
Flying the flag: Philippines (adidas)
The Filipinas got a huge boost last month after inking a four-year partnership with global sports apparel brand adidas. The red and blue home jerseys are fairly simple, featuring white and red pinstripes. The emphasis, after all, is the bold colors of the Philippine flag. The away jersey though provides a visual contrast, with diagonal lines providing a play on the classic stripes.
Keeping it classic: Jamaica (adidas)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Reggae Girlz will be keeping that in mind as they wear jerseys designed in partnership with fashion label Wales Bonner. It's said to be inspired by Jamaican culture, featuring the gold color in the flag and accentuated by green pinstripes and green shorts.
Loud but subtle: South Africa (Le Coq Sportif)
South Africa will be taking cue from jewel tones for their yellow and green jerseys. And these will carry a lot of weight for the Banyana Banyana. The yellow home jersey showcases the South African flag both in the front and the back. Le Coq Sportif describes it as "embodying nationhood, patriotism and essence of Ubuntu."
And there's nothing better to celebrate humanity towards others than carrying a nation's dream to the FIFA Women's World Cup.
The away jersey meanwhile is in a richer emerald tone, which celebrates the team's success in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Talk about a statement!
Comics brought to life: Denmark (Hummel)
In a field of countries bearing their national colors, Hummel tried to do something different for Denmark and it's certainly striking. Their red away jersey pays homage to pop art and comic book elements, featuring cross-hatching, Ben-Day dots, and angular speech bubbles. It's actually pretty fun.
Spots and Stripes: USA (Nike)
The defending champions are out to look different, with their home jerseys taking on patterns of speck and drip inspired by abstract expressionism. Plus can't have any better flex than the four gold stars in the chest to signify Team USA as four-time World Cup champions.
The away jersey is also visually arresting and patriotic, with intersecting diagonal stripes and red blades made to look like the tip of stars. Abstract and proud.
Sakura Lavender Haze: Japan (adidas)
Nadeshiko Japan's kit is really, really cute.
It features a pink and lavender hues of the sunrise at Mount Fuji. And you can't help but be reminded of Japan's famous sakura. Apparel brand adidas describes it as a "symbol of hope", capturing the color shifts in the Land of the Rising Sun.
River of Five Colors: Colombia (adidas)
Continuing the theme of nature-inspired kits, Colombia's away jersey shows serene streaks of pink, lavender, gold, moss green, and blue-black hues.
It's a homage to the Caño Cristales River, referred to as the "River of Five Colors" or the "Liquid Rainbow."
Modern Maple: Canada (Nike)
You can't get the maple out of Canada. But the iconic leaf design got an update for the FIFA Women's World Cup—a geometric touch with a striking red and black pattern. It's pretty fly, pretty fresh, and not too sweet.
Deep green emerald woodlands: Germany (adidas)
Germany's kit is inspired by the country's woodlands from the Black Forest to the Zauberwald. It's a stunning play on foliage, with hues ranging from mint green to moss.
Their home kit is pretty sharp too, featuring only three stripes of white-black-white, with gold accents.
How's the FOMO? Will you be saying goodbye to your money—or your wallet entirely?
