Ate Jia seems to feel right at home with her new squad.
One of the biggest developments in Philippine volleyball has undoubtedly been the recent departure of Jia de Guzman from the PVL’s glamour team, the Creamline Cool Smashers. One could tell what a huge deal it was from the emotional farewell that the standout setter had with Creamline ace Alyssa Valdez.
Nonetheless, fans understand this is the logical next step for de Guzman, who is now making most of her time with her new squad, the Denso Airybees.
On that note, the 28-year-old playmaker appears to be making a good first impression on her teammates over in the Japan V.League. On Sunday, the former Ateneo Blue Eagles star went on Instagram and shared a fun-filled practice session that she had with other members of the Airybees.
The girls were playing football inside the gym. Yep, football. Jia’s got skills, by the way. To see de Guzman’s Filipinas-like football prowess in its full glory, check out this IG reel from volleyball page cbvolei.
Jia has been a winner all her life. She has been crucial to Creamline's dynastic run in the PVL, but she also shines individually. From her Palarong Pambansa days to the UAAP, and all the way to her professional career in the PVL, she has been a consistent Best Setter awardee. She actually leads the PVL record books with four Finals MVP trophies.
Without a doubt, her fans can’t wait to see how de Guzman’s penchant for winning will affect the Nishio City-based team. The Airybees finished sixth out of 12 squads this past season. Expect the former Creamline star to do her best in helping her crew achieve significant improvements.
