Pacio wants to avenge his pervious loss to the Monkey God.
Even before the decision was announced, there was no doubt in Joshua Pacio’s mind that he beat Mansur Malachiev in their strawweight match at ONE Fight Night 15: Le vs Freymanov.
After 15 minutes of action, the Filipino fighter emerged victorious via unanimous decision and dealt his Dagestani foe his first loss on Saturday.
“Yes, of course. I was throwing heavy shots and I think I won in the damage category. He took me down, but he wasn’t doing much in my guard,” he said after the match at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Like I’ve said, Jarred Brooks is heavier in top position, so I was more confident going into my guard game on the ground,” Pacio added.
After the win, it seems the 27-year-old Pacio is in line for a rematch with Brooks, who dealt the Filipino his first and only loss so far.
Dubbed the “Monkey God,” Brooks edged Pacio in their December 3, 2022 match in the United States.
Now, Pacio is eager to redeem himself from that loss.
“I’ll go out there and not be stagnant. I’ll be more relaxed and display more mixed martial arts,” he said of the potential rematch with the Monkey God.
