It’s one thing to work hard and dedicate yourself to achieving your personal goal, and it’s another to give everything you have for others to realize their dreams. Well, Hidilyn Diaz has done both things exceptionally well. After becoming the first and only Filipino to win an Olympic medal when she conquered the women’s 55 kg category for weightlifting in Tokyo, Diaz has gone to great lengths to promote her sport in the Philippines and develop talents from the grassroots level.

This year, she has begun fulfilling that mission through the Hidilyn Diaz (HD) Weightlifting Academy.

On Sunday, the four-time Olympian’s gym located in Jala-Jala, Rizal, which is being built to cater to her advocacy, had its official groundbreaking. TV producer and talent manager Noel Ferrer went on Instagram to share the latest milestone in Diaz’s career.

“PAY IT FORWARD. In our @teamnoelfamily, EXCELLENCE is not just about us, it means a greater responsibility to serve a bigger community,” Ferrer posted.

Aside from sending his well-wishes, Ferrer also made sure to explain to the public what Hidilyn’s namesake establishment is all about.

“The HD Weightlifting Academy establishes a modern take on grassroots by implementing Sports Science and the 'winning formula' to help athletes have an opportunity to play sports, and eventually represent their country,” he wrote.

This special moment in Hidilyn’s weightlifting journey makes it impossible not to root for her. In her bid to qualify for the Paris Olympics, Filipinos, sports fans or not, will likely ride with Team Hidilyn all the way.
