Alex Eala bows out of W50 Indore semis after three-set showdown with Russian foe

Alex Eala exits the ITF W50 tournament in Indore on Saturday, after succumbing to Russian foe Polina Kudermetova in the semifinals, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2.

 

The third-seeded Filipina barged into the final four after defeating Romania's Anca Alexia Todoni of Romania, 7-5, 6-2, in the quarterfinal round on Friday. 

The tennis stalwart started strong in the Indore tournament, defeating Kazakhstan’s Zhibek Kulambayeva in the round of 32 and Russia's Ekaterina Yashina in the round of 16.

Last Monday, January 29, Eala saw her Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles ranking go up three spots, climbing to a career-high No. 184 from No. 187.

Eala also improved 63 spots in the WTA doubles as well at No. 302 after she and Latvian partner Darja Semenistaja clinched the title in the W50 Pune doubles competition.
