Ange Kouame and Chris Banchero will share the court together for the first time as the Meralco Bolts will compete in the brand new season of the East Asia Super League.
Lighting strikes blue for Meralco as the Bolts are set to parade former Ateneo Blue Eagles superstar Ange Kouame as their naturalized player in the upcoming 2024-25 East Asia Super League (EASL) tournament.

But for that to happen, Kouame had to make a major decision to be able to suit up for the reigning Philippine Cup champions.
“I had to sacrifice a lot to be able to be in this position because I turned down my contract with France to be able to do that.” the 6-foot-11 slotman said to One Sports in an exclusive interview.
After playing for Chartres Métropole in France, Kouame bannered the Strong Group Athletics and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in various international competitions and will now reinforce the Bolts against East Asia's best club teams.
He will be joined by three-time PBA Best Import and current Meralco import Allen Durham and former NBA D-League champion D. J. Kennedy.
Kouame expressed his gratitude for playing for the Bolts and another opportunity to represent the Philippines in an international competition.
“I’m happy that we [were able to] come in terms with Meralco. I’m also happy to represent the country. I’m ready to go,” he said.
The three-time UAAP champion will share the court for the first time with veteran playmaker Chris Banchero, who is confident Kouame will exceed the expectations thrown at him.
“I’ll think he’ll hit those expectations and we’re excited to have him on the team,” Banchero said.
Banchero also bared his excitement to play alongside Kouame, a former UAAP Season and Finals MVP.
“I know he’s an exceptional basketball player and a very good teammate from everything I heard and I’m excited to play with him,” he added.
Meralco will open their EASL campaign on October 2, Wednesday, against reigning Macau Basketball League champions Macau Black Bears at 8:00 p.m. in the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
