Jon Jones stopped Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 309 to retain his UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Jon “Bones” Jones is truly unstoppable in high-stakes fights.
Fighting for the first time since March 2023, Jones added to his GOAT case by making a successful first defense of his UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 309 Sunday (PHL), stopping former champion Stipe Miocic.
Jones dominated the main event, punishing Miocic on the ground after an impressive takedown in round 1.
By round 3, Jones had Stipe reeling and eventually picked up a TKO win after a vicious spinning back kick to the body of Miocic, followed by a set of punches for the finish.
Despite being among the most controversial mixed martial arts fighters ever, there’s simply no denying Jones’ greatness, and his win improved his MMA record to 28 wins against just one loss and one no contest.
After dominating the Light Heavyweight division, Jones won the UFC Heavyweight title in 2023 after a submission win over Ciryl Gane.
Despite now being 37-years-old, Jones reiterated his desire to note retire after the victory. It was the opposite for Miocic, who decided to hang it up after the loss.
Stipe, a former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, made his return to the Octagon for the first time since UFC 260 in 2021 when he initially lost the belt to Francis Ngannou.
