Rookie Amiel Acido powered the UST Growling Tigers to a dominant 75-49 victory over the Adamson Soaring Falcons, securing their first Final Four appearance since 2019 in UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Saturday.
Acido delivered an impressive performance, scoring 11 of his 14 points in the second half. The rookie guard’s sharpshooting—hitting four of five triples—helped UST pull away with a commanding 23-4 third-quarter run.
He also contributed two rebounds to earn Player of the Game honors.
UST finished the elimination round at 7-7, marking the first time since 1998 (UAAP Season 61) that a team with a non-winning record claimed the third seed in the Final Four, according to statistician Pong Ducanes,
Nic Cabañero added 13 points, while Mo Tounkara recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Adamson, now 5-8, needs a win against Ateneo and a UE loss to UP to keep their playoff hopes alive.
