Philippine tennister Alex Eala begins the final stretch of her 2024 season with a rout in Japan after her short break in Manila.
Alex Eala hardly broke a sweat as she came out with a rousing two-set victory over home bet Ena Koike in the W100 Takasaki in Japan on Tuesday, November 19.
Coming off of a short break in Manila, Eala needed only an hour and two minutes to deal with Koike, 6-2, 6-0, in the Round of 32.
The wild card entrant was unable to get anything going against the Filipina ace as the latter took advantage of Koike’s errant service game where she had three double faults in the match.
In the first set, Eala ran away with the advantage early with a 4-0 lead, before Koike finally got herself on the board by holding her serve in Game 5.
She did this again in Game 7 as she denied Eala for one more game in Set 1, nipping the 19-year-old after three deuces.
But when Eala got her serve back, it was cruise control as she took the set, 6-2.
In Set 2, it was all Eala as she blanked her foe, 6-0.
Eala will face another wild card bet in Hayu Kinoshita in the Round of 16.
The Rafa Nada Academy scholar is coming off of a productive break in Manila where she gained important R&R before diving back into her final stretch of the season.
