Javi Gómez de Liaño gets a strong game, but it's the team of his younger brother Juan that gets the win in the KBL.
Juan Gomez de Liaño was a DNP (Did Not Play) once again for the Seoul SK Knights, but his team got the upper hand over older brother Javi Gomez de Liaño’s Anyang Red Boosters, 77-73, in the 2024-25 KBL season at the Anyang Gymnasium on Saturday.
Seeing limited action this month with only two games played in December, Juan GDL was forced to be a spectator as his team mounted a comeback against his older brother after trailing by eight late in the third quarter.
The visitors, who were led by a team effort with four different players in twin digit scoring, went on a pivotal 11-2 run that had them ahead early in the fourth canto, 68-67.
Despite going back-and-forth, the league-leading Knights were able to get the last laugh as they ended the match on a 6-0 scoring burst to seize the victory to snap their three game slump.
Oh Jae-Hyun had an all-around game of 18 points, nine boards, and five assists to pace Seoul who are now 14-5 for the season.
Jameel Warney added 16 points, nine rebounds, and three dimes for the SK Knights.
Meanwhile, Javi’s 15 points — all coming from three point land — weren't enough as Anyang stumbled to 7-13 for the year.
Javi also had two rebounds and three assists in the losing effort for his team.
Anyang goes back to work on Sunday against the Changwon LG Sakers, where Javi faces another UP alumni in Carl Tamayo.
The SK Knights, meanwhile, have a lengthier break and play Christmas next against the Seoul Samsung Thunders.
