Team Philippines claimed their first-ever medal as a program in the 2025 Asia Pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
A bronze that glitters like gold.
That was the ending of the Philippine women’s lacrosse team’s breakout campaign in the 2025 Asia Pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship as they won in the battle for bronze against Chinese Taipei, 18-6, in Queensland, Australia on Saturday.
After clinching a spot for the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship slated in Japan, the Philippines capped their Cinderella campaign with the convincing victory, which continued to show the country’s promise in the sport.
Losing against Japan in the semifinals, the Philippines got right back into business in the battle for bronze.
Steph Lazo was the driving force behind the Philippines’ victory with five goals to her name.
Still, it wasn’t a one woman show with four other players scoring multiple goals.
Sarah Nelson, Lizzie de Guzman, and Cat Roxas all finished with three points each, but it was Lazo’s five-goal barrage that bagged her Player of the Game honors.
“This means absolutely everything,” said Lazo on World Lacrosse.
“From the very start of this tournament, we faced adversity and stuck together. We adapted and adjusted, and this means so much for our country,” she added.
En route to the bronze medal match, the Philippines notched big wins over China and Hong Kong to clinch their spot in the knockout stage.
