Not MJ, not LBJ: Draymond Green says ‘no debate’ that Stephen Curry is GOAT

Not MJ, not LBJ: Draymond Green says ‘no debate’ that Stephen Curry is GOAT

Who is the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in the NBA?

It’s an ongoing debate among fans, pundits, players past and present. And it’s one that’s not going to end soon either.

Michael Jordan and LeBron James are widely considered the 1-2 in the GOAT conversation. Then there’s the late great Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also having their own cases to the title. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird aren't that far behind.

But Golden State Warriors’ outspoken forward Draymond Green begged to differ. At least in Green’s dictionary, the GOAT is not in the aforementioned list.

It’s supposed to be his teammate, Stephen Curry, the NBA’s all-time leader in career three-pointers.

When asked about Curry’s “irrational confidence," the bruiser said it was “way different” and then added something to spice things up in true Draymond Green fashion.

“We all argue like, ‘Oh, is Jordan the GOAT? Does LeBron dethrone him? Whoever your guy is, who you think is the GOAT,” he told ESPN.

“Everyone debates it. There’s no debate. [Steph] is the greatest. So that confidence runs different. But I think we all here in this world know, there’s no debate. He’s the greatest, and that’s a special thing."

One can’t blame Green, who has seen the 6-foot-3’s journey to superstardom. The four-time NBA champion and only unanimous MVP in league history, after all, revolutionized basketball by extending the three-pointer to the logo or taking a jumper after countless, ridiculous dribbles. They have always worked for him, though.

Green's hot take is definitely going to garner mixed, nay, violent reactions from everyone.

In the meantime, Green and the Warriors shift their focus to Game 7 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Sacramento Kings, happening on Monday.

Golden State will need Steph to tout his GOAT abilities to snatch a road win against the no. 3 seed and advance to the next round, where the Los Angeles Lakers await.
