King James is turning 39 this year.
It’s official! LeBron James will be back for his 21st season in the NBA.
James was at the ESPYs on Thursday, where he was honored for "Best Record Breaking Performance" for surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and setting a new NBA record in total career points.
But that's February's news, and while fans are happy the Los Angeles Laker forward gets an ESPY hardware to show for it, there are more pressing issues about James—specifically his future in the NBA.
LeBron addressed the crowd about it.
“The real question for me is, 'Can I play without cheating this game?’ asked James before delivering the clincher.
“The day I can't give the game everything on the floor is the day I'll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”
Did this come as a surprise? Probably not for many fans given how productive King James was last season.
In 55 regular season games with the Lakers, James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists, proving that he is still one of the best players in the league.
The four-time NBA MVP led the Lakers to their return to the NBA Playoffs, where they would reach the Western Conference Finals before falling to eventual NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets.
Of course, LBJ’s decision to return for another season was backed by his wife and family. Simply put, Savannah James had this to say about her husband.
“I want to tell you what I think: I think LeBron James is the baddest mother—”
And while their daughter Zhuri stopped her from saying the curse word, we all know what Savannah meant—and we agree.
James has previously made it clear that he also hopes to play with his son, Bronny, who will be a freshman at USC this year and draft-eligible in 2024.
