Despite battling pain before the race, Pinoy hurdler John Cabang Tolentino’s radiant smile spoke volumes about his sheer joy and triumphant spirit after his Olympic debut performance.
John Cabang Tolentino stands tall, forever proud and fiercely honored to be an Olympian amid challenges.
The 23-year-old Filipino hurdler stepped onto the Olympic stage for the first time.
In spite of experiencing pain before the biggest race in his life, Tolentino fought valiantly, raising the Philippine flag.
“I felt pain yesterday. I couldn’t run but Antonio, EJ Obiena’s PT (physical therapist), did some magic to me. I could run today so it’s fine,” he said.
Tolentino secured sixth place in Heat 1 of the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.66.
Even with pain lingering, his glowing expression radiated pure joy and unbreakable spirit.
“At first, I never thought of being an Olympian so that’s a blessing for me,” Tolentino shared.
John Tolentino will have another shot in the repechage on August 6.
