While he’s no longer calling the shots for the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA, coach Leo Austria is still very much attached to basketball.

Austria shared his knowledge of the game to aspiring coaches as one of the speakers in the Camp & Play Coaches Forum at the Dayong Art Gallery Cafe in Quezon City.

SMB assistant coach and camp director Dayong Mendoza posted on his Facebook page a picture of Austria discussing coaching philosophy on Day 2 of the said event.

Austria, who led the Beermen to nine championships since taking the reins in 2014, was replaced by Jorge Gallent before the start of the PBA Governors’ Cup last season.

The 65-year-old mentor was hailed Coach of the Year by the PBA Press Corps four times, besting Tim Cone and Ryan Gregorio who have three each. He is only an award behind Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes with the most number of COTY plums.

But he’s not the only high-profile tactician so far in the five-day coaching clinic.

Adamson University Soaring Falcons coach Nash Racela also graced the opening day of the event tackling team concepts, while Mendoza discussed video scouting.
