It was Arvin Tolentino who iced the win, though.
Fran Yu was a man possessed in homestretch for NorthPort Batang Pier in its 101-95 win over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA On Tour on Saturday.
The former NCAA champion with the Letran Knights hit three big three-pointers inside the final four minutes, with the first coming at the 3:55 mark that gave the Batang Pier an 11-point cushion, 88-77.
The last one came with 1:15 remaining and Ginebra staging a furious comeback. That triple put NorthPort's lead back to double digits, 96-86.
In true Ginebra fashion, the crowd darlings managed to make it a two-possession game with less than 30 ticks remaining. But Arvin Tolentino canned a pair of freebies with 8.2 to go to seal the victory at the Batangas City Coliseum.
Yu, who is one of the prospective first round picks in the coming PBA Draft, finished with 21 points on 6-for-10 shooting from long range while also dishing out 8 assists.
Paul Zamar and JM Calma added 16 points apiece, while Tolentino chipped in 15 for the Batang Pier, who trailed by 15 points in the opening quarter before gaining their groove.
Ginebra relied on Jeremiah Gray and Von Pessumal, who finished with 26 and 16 points, respectively, but went gun-shy in the dying seconds.
The win pushes NorthPort to 3-2 in the preseason, with Ginebra dropping to 1-3.
