Sedrick Barefield, the number two overall pick in the recent rookie draft, is proving his worth as one of the Blackwater Bossing's go-to guys this PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Blackwater Bossing needed some ease of life after a woeful start to their PBA Governors’ Cup campaign, Sedrick Barefield answered the call.
The second overall pick in this year’s draft played a pivotal role in the Bossing’s recent resurgence, after a 0-3 start in the season-opening tournament.
Before dropping a 112-98 decision in their rematch with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Tuesday, September 10, Blackwater rode a three-game winning streak with Barefield emerging as one of the primary catalysts in the Bossing's uprising.
The former NBA G-League hooper averaged 23 points, five assists, and 1.5 rebounds to lead Blackwater to a 2-0 week, and thus earning the nod as the PBA Press Corps-Pilipinas Live Player of the Week for the period of September 3 to 8.
Those two victories include a 32-point explosion against the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters on September 3, Tuesday. That game saw Barefield cap off his heroics with a crucial three-point play, a tough jumper, and a split that quelled the Fuel Masters' furious rally from 21 points down.

"I feel like I'm just being more of myself and that just comes with trust in my guys, my teammates and Coach," the 26-year-old guard said after putting up his best game yet donning the Bossing jersey. He followed that up with a 14-point, five-assist outing in Blackwater’s 110-99 thumping of the NLEX Road Warriors on Friday, September 6.

He was the first Bossing player to earn the weekly citation this Governors' Cup with San Miguel’s JuneMar Fajardo and NorthPort’s Arvin Tolentino earlier achieving the feat.
Currently, the Jeffrey Cariaso-mentored squad are holding a 3-4 win-loss card in Group B and occupying the fifth spot with just half-a-game behind the no. 4 NLEX Road Warriors (3-3).
Barefield and Co. aim to get back to the winning ways quickly when they face anew the Fuel Masters on Sunday, September 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
